Jobs Movie Review Ahmedabad

Jobs is actually what most of the jobs look like before you get in – “Not to your expectation.” … I mean weren’t you expecting moments where you see the rise, fall and the ‘wow / aww’ feeling around it? Weren’t you expecting to decode the success formula of one of the Best Innovators of World? For somebody who always believed (& did) in never creating a ‘me-too’ product and always created world-class out-of-the-box products; for somebody who is an aspiration to every start-up of World (& everybody else) …

Madras Cafe Movie Review

Madras Café : Serious| Class Apart | Exceptional |… and a few more adjectives |

Madras Café is set against the backdrop of Civil War of Sri Lanka that lasted for decades and claimed innumerous lives, shook Government of India and left a bad, black stamp in the history of World. Shoojit Sircar, the director, plays around with a ‘fact’ story, blends with the ‘fiction’, balances both & triumphantly manages to present story in ‘never-told’ way. Never in the movie does it give the reference to the real life incidences but you know for sure what are they talking about & who are the characters. Every scene, every single dialogue, each character and each frame of movie has been carved so brilliantly that you don’t even realize you have sat for two hours straight without changing your position on seat.

Well, we are not sure about you but there is large number of people who wants to watch this movie.

While we were wondering why such a large turnout in premiere show (06:00 p.m. on Thursday) at an awkward hour of a working day, we realized that there are good number of factors that has worked for Chennai Express i.e. some people hate SRK and some love him but both the group would want to watch this movie

The Smurfs 2

This week you don’t have a lot of good options for movies. The most awaited movie, of this week, we believe is Smurf 2.

Blue cute looking creatures are back with a different back drop this time. The earlier version was set in New York; however, this version is shot in Paris. Are you a serious Smurf fan? Or you find Smurfette the cutest? Well, by and large nothing is changed in the movie aka characters, cuteness, human characters, Papa Smurf, etc. The sequel animation is kinda a bit of an action animated comedy “The Smurfs 2″....

D-Day - Movie Reviews

The ‘D Day’ movie is good enough! Yes, it’s good enough… ‘good’ in some scenes and ‘enough of good’ in other.

D Day probably is the first of its kind movie in Bollywood wherein India’s agents gets into Pakistan and hunt for ‘India’s Most Wanted’ men i.e. Dawood like gangster – who is believed to be responsible for all the terror attacks in India. Full marks to Advani for picking up this plot… though I wonder why Bollywood took so much time to work on this plot when Hollywood has been doing it since… not sure how many years.

Bajate Raho - Movie Reviews

You have seen Khosla Ka Ghosla and you loved it. You will watch Bajate Raho and it too will amuse you. But is it in the same class as Khosla Ka Ghosla? No! Been there, done that – the movie has similar ‘kind of’ story, backdrop, star cast and dialogues. Don’t get me wrong here … Bajate Raho, in a way, if dissected properly, has its own beauty but nothing that amazes you.

The Lone Ranger - Movie Review

The lone ranger_web
The Lone Ranger Movie Review

The plot, though overly complicated in the telling, is actually quite simple. Educated lawyer John Reid (Armie Hammer) returns to his hometown of Colby, on a train that’s carrying the fearsome violent bad guy Butch Cavendish (William Fichtner), who is being hauled in by the local civic bigwig Latham Cole (Tom Wilkinson) so that the killer can be publicly hanged in order to assure the townsfolk of their safety. Also on the train bringing Butch and John to Colby is Tonto (Johnny Depp), a mystical whom we eventually learn has been shunned by his tribe and has revenge on his mind due to events from his past. After Cavendish pulls off an elaborate escape with the help of his gang, a posse led by John’s older brother Dan (James Badge Dale) hunt down the bandits until they are ambushed and massacred by the Cavendish crew. Surprisingly, John survives the attack and is rescued by Tonto, who informs the gun-shy Texan that he is now a spirit warrior who can’t be killed in battle. John dons a black mask, and he and Tonto work together to seek vengeance.

Depp’s Tonto is not Jack Sparrow of the West. The character is more subdued, the laugh lines a little more nuanced. … Depp, even though he is hidden deep in make-up and wears a dead bird (or is it?) on his head for much of the film and feed’s it, still manages to draw us in. Unlike Sparrow, Tonto is not flamboyant. He is smart and patient as he carries around the weight of a childhood trauma.

‘The Lone Ranger’ revels in its sense of excess but it doesn’t get fun until that final twenty minutes. It’s hard to deny that the final chase in and around two moving trains is entertaining.

As a Western action-comedy, this finds a middle ground between the awfulness of ‘The Wild Wild West’ and the solid entertainment of ‘Maverick.’

Though with 150 minutes of storytelling, it takes 2.5 stars, I give an extra .5 star because it has Johnny Depp. I can’t see any other actor pulling off a dead-bird on his head with such fineness.
So unless you are not a Depp fan, which I believe that it’s tough to be, you ought to see the movie!!!!

Lootera - Movie Reviews

lootera web

Like most of the much-hyped category movies, this movie could have been a disaster but NO - this is a high on emotions & drama movie which is just so near to the “masterpiece” tag.

Unlike all her movies, Sonakshi turns the table in this movie and finally acts. She pulls off her role of young, pampered & ailing daughter of a wealthy Zameendaar, just so brilliantly that you end up wondering if the same lady has acted in Rowdy Rathod too. Be it the dialogue delivery or ‘making faces’, she plays the role without overplaying it. Ranveer Singh, in his high-waisted avatar, looks amazing & does a job even better than his looks.

Ranveer comes to stay at Zameendaar’s place for some work, and meets Sinha – you fall in love with the “love at first sight”. Though he makes them believe he has visited for all the right intentions, he has wrong motives. He breaks the hearts ruthlessly and flees but you still pity him. They meet again … things have changed as expected. Why? Will he break her heart again?

Our two thumps up to the Director, Arts Director & Cinematographer who have not left a single stone unturned to ensure you get the feel you are watching the duo romancing in a backdrop of 1950s. Every small thing has been taken care of – simply flawless. Amit Trivedi’s music matches the 50s feel and hangs on to your ear long after you have left the theater and will stay in your heart for even longer.

The romance between Singh and Sinha is impeccable. There is not a single scene which goes overboard and stays less explored. The dialogues are apt, slow and easy but interestingly the best scenes of the movie are those where there are no dialogues at all. The romance is sweet and perfects the longing-ness expressions of actors; will take you back to all those great romantic hindi movies made in 1950s & will remind you of their shy expressions and dialogues.

Overall, Lootera is an amazingly gorgeous movie that may make you cry, may pinch your heart, may hurt you but is still beautiful … just like Love

Despicable Me 2

me2 web
Despicable Me 2 Movie review

Just like “Monsters University,” “Despicable Me 2″ is sure to be a hit!
Gru(The Supervillain of Despicable Me), his Minions (Yellow and giggly wearing blue overalls) and the girls are back this round, in which we discover that Gru without evil doesn’t have much of a personality at all. The babbling Minions are still wacky scene-stealers – and once again, we don’t get nearly enough of them.

Gru now embraces fatherhood - via his precocious adopted daughters Agnes (Elsie Fisher), Margo (Miranda Cosgrove) and Edith (Dana Gaier) - and he’s become more hero than a scoundrel. The story opens with Gru (voice of Steve Carell) and Dr. Nefario trying to replace villainy with jellies and jams. However, their fruity concoction is awful, which allows Gru and his minions to join the Anti-Villain league to sniff out a secret enemy with a serum that turns subjects into oversize, ravenous, purple creatures.

I liked Gru better when he was despicable, a supervillain who’d steal the moon until the orphans steal his heart. That movie was an awesome addition to the animation gold rush. But the new film with Gru being whole lot less despicable is just playful. The giggly Minions, once a sideshow, now steal the show. More Minions (both good and bad), more silly stunts, fun songs, 3-D madness and throw in some James Bond-style spy gadgets and you have a pretty darn entertaining sequel to the popular Despicable Me. Of course, if you aren’t a fan of the little yellow Minions, you might not be as happy with the film. Did I mention the Minions rock? Those yellow, pill-shaped goofballs if strung together could be a feature film of their own. If you love the Minions, you’ll enjoy this movie to the core.

Ghanchakkar

Ghanchakkar Movie Review

What looked like a master blaster story line, turned out to be, well, ghanchakkar storyline.

The screenplay of movie is gripping in the beginning and you stay awake on your seat waiting for the ‘next’. But then it loses its charm, gradually, as it moves further. But at the same time, though you may shift your bottom a little from the seat but you would not leave it till the end.

Rajkumar, the man who directed great movies like Aamir & No One Killed Jessica, tries his hard but leaves a couple of loopholes. Emraan puts his best foot forward with his acting skills; Vidya is again at her best though her role is not as intriguing as that in Dirty Picture, Kahaani etc. You can’t ignore Rajesh Sharma & Namit Das.

The story revolves around Emraan and his loud & ‘naughty’ wife Vidya. Emraan robs a bank with Rajesh & Namit. After the robbery, Emraan is enthrusted with the job of keeping the money safe till they meet after 3 months to share the money. They meet after 3 months but things have changed … Emraan has lost his memory! Now what? Hit the theatre to know that.

No, you cannot say anything wrong about anybody’s acting skills. They all are brilliant. What is wrong is the way the story flows towards you but takes a separate lane before hitting you. You keep waiting and you wait till end – you don’t leave your seat thinking the ‘twist’ will come now but alas! There are scenes & dialogues you cannot afford to miss, specially the ‘dinner-time’ scenes. Music is ok.

Go watch, if at all, only for the performances. Beware the ending may disappoint you a bit.

Overall rating 2.5 / 5 stars.

The Heat

the heat web
The Heat Movie Review

The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Mellisa McCarthy seems to be a new age comedy. From the genre of Buddy-Cop movies, THE HEAT is for sure different in its treatment. Sandra Bullock has played a cop before but this time she plays a straight-faced workaholic cop.

Maybe, THE HEAT is kind of a mess, but it’s a funny mess. Bullock plays Ashburn. An FBI agent, competent but suffers from by-the-book syndrome. She gets competitive with her co-workers and precisely the reason she has not won any friends in the community. She is so obsessed with proving her intelligence that she even competes with a K9, from her unit and feels proud when she wins over it.

Come’s McCarthy who plays Mullins. A detective from the Boston PD. She unlike Ashburn is being feared from her fellow colleagues for her arrogance, Vulgarity and steadfast commitment towards her job. McCarthy’s style of slapstick humor and everything-is-funny does make her presence felt on the screen. I take the liberty to state that at times, she shadows Sandra bullock completely.

The duo of Ashburn and Mullins have been put on a case to arrest a brutal drug kingpin. The plot is not a Beverly hills cops or a Die Hard. But then it has its share of the cops and bad guys. Many a times in the movie the story takes a turn and becomes painful to bear. Trust me when I say, I had to pinch myself to bring myself back to senses.

The movie feels like different pieces of comic strip put together with some boring plots in the middle. You just wake up for the comic part. Rest you can sleep away to glory.

Paul Figg (director) knows his way around the actors. For sure Bullock, America’s sweetheart has been wasted big time. After winning an Oscar, I was expecting Bullock to be more sensible on the choice of the scripts. The only saving grace of the movie is McCarthy. She is one of the best comic I have come across in recent times. It’s like every word coming out of her mouth is for sure to tickle your funny bone. The McCarthy comedy is slapstick and in-your-face.

The Plot thickens only when Ashburn (bullock) and Mullins (McCarthy) are out to pin the drug lord so that they can save Mullins brother and Ashburn can win her long-awaited promotion.

So will they be able to sacrifice their personal ambitions and the love for their family in the line of duty, is what THE HEAT is all about.

Raanjhana Movie Review

Raanjhana web

Movie Review

Sad Sad Sad!! How come a movie which looks so beautiful before interval becomes so painful and irritating in its second half?

Yes, this is what you’ll feel when you watch Raanjhana. Started with the young character and most favorite kid Naman Jain (Jangiya of Chiller Party) has done a great job as always. When grown up, Dhanush (Kundan) takes over the role. He was in love with Sonam Kapoor (Zoya) since childhood.

In the first half, there’s a good mixture of comedy and love. Kundan does nothing but follows Zoya who studies in std. 9th. He follows her everywhere and gets slapped for 16 times just to know her name.

Eventually she falls in love with him but her parents come to know about it and sends her out of the town for further studies. Here Dhanush keeps waiting for her to come back. When she’s back, she doesn’t remember kundan. Being a matured woman, she tells Kundan that their childhood love was just childish and nothing else.

Twist comes when Abhay Deol (Akram) enters. He plays a secure yet confident university student, socialist and a budding politician. Zoya falls in love with him while studying in Delhi and joins his party. This part will also give a hint of Delhi rape case and some political facts.

So the question is that how come a movie which was expected to be a love story suddenly takes a political turn? After Akram’s death due to a mistake by Kundan, Kundan feels guilty and joins his party. He steps into akram’s shoes and takes over completely but then India has politicians to run after you till death and that’s what happens at the end. And while he was dying, Zoya falls in love with him. What rubbish? I mean, he tried to get her attention in the whole movie and when he is dying that girl falls for him but “He doesn’t care about it anymore.”

I know it sound confusing and messed here too. But that’s what happened while watching it.

Monsters University Movie Review

Monsters University Movie Review

monster u web
Monsters University, like its 2001 predecessor, Monsters Inc. proves a solid comedy no matter what. It’s actually a college-comedy with smarts, heart and a lot of laughs.

Story of Mike and Sully the lovable “scarers” working at Monsters Inc. but how did they meet? Were they always scary? Were young Mike and Sulley always “besties”?

The prequel takes us back to college, where future “Monsters, Inc.” pals Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) and James “Sully” Sullivan (John Goodman) first meet. It’s hate at first sight for these two. The two argue constantly, a war that leaves them on the brink of expulsion. Eventually they lead a fraternity of geeky-clumsy monsters called Oozma Kappa in a series of competitions with other far-cooler fraternities. They must win in order to be able to stay in the scaring school.

The film is entertaining and hilariously funny at times. There is so much silly cuteness going on even in the background. It features all the entertainment and heart you’ve come to expect from Pixar.

World War Z Movie Review

Zworldwar web

Not quite long back it was all about Vampires and the frenzy for the paranormal still hasn’t waned, it is indeed the dawn of the Zombie movies. So what do you expect out of a Zombie movie that stars Brad Pitt? Well something different right? Different it is, for sure; but not exactly in a good way.

Director Marc Forster of ‘Quantum of Solace’ fame manages to keep you hooked on, making sure you hold your breath for the ‘next’ but when the film ends, you wonder exactly what was so new about it? The saving grace of the film are the superb action sequences & visual effects. There are flashes (& fleshes) of surprises that will scare your pants off but you leave with a feeling that there is something missing.

The star cast is a mixed ensemble; of course lead by Brad Pitt. There are moments that highlight his acting skills but even the pseudo-impact one liners, the dialogue delivery, and a roster of supporting actors or the misplaced humor cannot eventually save the monotony of the film. There are some inferences form the Max brooks book of the same title but the movie lacks the multi-perspective take of the book. The movie is void of a heart figuratively and literally possibly because Zombies are dead people after all (pun intended)

The story, based on Max Brooks’s Novel follows United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) who has retired and now lives a peaceful life with his family. The world has been attacked by a ‘disease’ that will convert Earth into a world of the living-dead if not stopped. Nobody knows the origin of the disease or how to control it (yes, you have heard it before). Lane is called upon by the Government to help them investigate when he traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself. Can Brad save the world? Your guess is as good as mine.

If your expectations are clear – you want to watch a scary zombie movie with great action sequences, breath-taking visual effects and want to see dead people walking around the globe – World War Z will not disappoint you.

3 / 5 Stars overall.

Superman Man Of Steel - Movie Review

Superman Man Of Steel

MOS

If you liked the last Superman movie, you will fall in love with this one. Of course Superman’s story has been told over & over again but ‘Man Of Steel’ has been narrated like never before. For what I thought would be a hardcore action movie turned out to be a brilliantly directed movie with visual-effects that will keep you glued to the screen for 149 minutes straight. Although Zack Snyder of ‘300’ fame directed man of steel, traces of now producer Nolan’s remarkable directorial style ( of The dark knight rises fame) can be seen throughout the film. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams have also done justice to their parts owing to the superb VFX and direction.

The new superman movie claims to have no relations to the previous series and the story line too is quite different. Krypton is dying while General Zod has declared a civil war against the planet. Superman’s father, Zor-El, ships the newborn Superman to earth, to save him & also to protect his species of Krypton’s civilization. Superman is brought up by a couple on Earth, teaching him how to cope with his powers without revealing them to the world. The secret of Superman finally gets revealed when Zor-El attacks Earth to capture Superman & to destroy Earth to make it their new home there. The story has a number of turning points that make it a must watch for superhero movie buffs!
Yes, you have seen Superhero movies in past, you have seen those brilliantly shot action sequences, superb one-liners, mind-blowing visual effects but wait till you have seen Man of Steel.

Although the film doesn’t call for a sequel, after watching Man of steel I am definitely waiting for one …!

Ankur Arora Murder Case - Movie Review

 Ankur Arora Murder Case

AAMC

Watch it for noble intentions of makers!!

Film is based on a real-life incident where a boy dies on the operation table due to medical negligence, Seeing the trailer of Ankur Arora Murder Case’s, you get a feeling that this is one important film. But what kills the experience is it’s long first half and uninteresting & slow second half. The film is very monotonous and there seems to be no evident effort to make Ankur Arora’s Murder Case interesting. Even the background music is flat. The Story is decent enough but has been badly directed.

I’ll go with 2.0 stars and if you wish, you can save money by not watching it.

Fukrey Hindi Movie Review

Fukrey Hindi Movie

fukrey1

The trailer of Fukrey promises to be a fun-filled movie. Is it actually?

Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani – guys behind Dil Chahata Hai, Zindagi na milegi dobara, Rock on… can they make it again?

Star cast – not so known… will you watch it? Guys, don’t miss it… yes, watch nothing but this. It’s probably the most surprised and promising package of 2013. Yes, you are reading it right. The movie in the first half is almost 4 stars. The quirky punches, comic timings especially Choocha’s (Varun Sharma) timing, expressions entertains you to the fullest, its storyline and the way they want to make big money in a short-cut way is very much different and all and all entertainer. When you start a movie, you don’t get to predict what is coming next as it keeps on entertaining you with their one-liners, not making you realize that they are actually building a story line.

Though there are many favorite scenes but my favorite is the way Choocha dreams about his friend and weird things which Hunny (his friend and lead actor) decodes to come up with a winning lottery number. I am kinda guaranteeing you that you will come back from the intermission very fast… as they leave you at ‘make or break moment’… and you don’t want to miss the outcome.

Honestly speaking they couldn’t keep the comedy consistent after intermission – though it doesn’t get bad but yes it brings down your tempo to a bit.

All and all… its one of the nicest movies in 2013 and you can’t miss it.
